Fall 2020 Gap Program Updates

At Thinking Beyond Borders we are continuing to track travel restrictions and evaluate safety for each of our programs. We are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to offer gap year students the opportunity for meaningful global experience during the 2020/21 academic year. In order to give our students greater access to transformational experiences and to address the current uncertainty many people are feeling, we have extended our application deadlines, and have introduced a risk-free deposit policy for this year (see below).

We have also made the decision to delay the departure dates of our Fall 2020 Global Gap Year Program until November 7, 2020 and to push our Fall Latin America Gap Semester and our Asia Gap Semester departures to February 6, 2021. This will allow us to manage and respond to any continued travel restrictions.

We remain committed to the value of global experiences which combine reflection with immersion and are working tirelessly to continue offering students with transformational opportunities beyond the classroom. We will continue our best practices from over 12 years of running quality international programming which serve to prepare students for their next steps while becoming active citizens of the world.

Both our semester and year-long gap programs offer students structured, educational opportunities. We operate at the intersection of deep cultural immersion through living with host families, experiential learning alongside local experts, innovative curriculums taught by professional educators within the fields of environment, education and public health, and meaningful personal growth including the development of cross-cultural competency and gaining a sense of identity, purpose and direction.

The safety and well being of our students is and continues to be a top priority. We are proud that we were one of the first gap organizations to bring students home from their programs abroad in March of 2020 before most COVID-19 related travel restrictions were put in place, and will place the same high value on risk assessment and management practice for all future programming (COVID-19 FAQs).
